Define the finished condition
A completed shell, a furnished interior and an operational business are different handover conditions. List each room and the items needed for it to be usable, including client-supplied equipment and specialist systems.
Make responsibilities visible
Identify who designs, supplies, installs, tests and maintains each package. Pay particular attention to IT, kitchens, lighting controls and imported furniture. The interfaces between suppliers deserve as much attention as their individual quotations.
Agree close-out evidence
The handover schedule should identify inspections, snagging, as-built information and available warranty documents. Agree how outstanding items are recorded and closed, rather than leaving the definition of completion until the last week.
